Frank L BlumEstablished in 1923, Frank L. Blum Construction Company has been a trusted building partner to Owners across the greater Triad region for decades. With the lowest actively used general contractor license number in the state of North Carolina - License # 18 - the 87-year-old firm has a solid reputation for weathering the most challenging economies, partnering with the most exacting owners, and excelling at the most challenging projects.

The company's beginnings were humble. When Frank L. Blum founded his company, he listed just a few assets, including a Ford automobile, two concrete mixers, one team of mules, a wagon and harness. Through the economic challenges of the 1930s and the turbulence of the war years in the '40s, past Mr. Blum's sudden death and the rally of employees to save the company in the '50s, and through the first planned "changing of the guard" to the a new generation of leaders in the '80s, the company has succeeded in hard times and embraced periods of growth to become one of the most respected businesses in the Triad area.

The company has fully employed up-to-date technologies and construction methods. In fact, Frank L. Blum Construction Company built several of the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Certified new buildings and office upfits in the Triad region. The company also completed four new buildings on the campus of Summit School that meet guidelines for environmental sustainability, and is currently completing six projects that are expected to become LEED® Certified, including Wake Forest University's South Hall, a prototype for teaching sustainability. We have six LEED® accredited Professionals on staff, including two Field Managers.

Men at WorkLooking toward the future, partners Drew Hancock and Mark Gilbert cast their sights on continuing the company's proud tradition of excellence and customer satisfaction. As a result, a well-considered strategic leadership plan has brought four new partners to the forefront. This future generation of leadership will be mentored and will eventually take the company well past its 100th anniversary.

The company's footprint also continues to grow. Frank L. Blum Construction Company's quality structures have stretched the boundaries of the Triad with projects on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill, Penick Village Retirement Community in Southern Pines, Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro, and Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, and, with a newly-earned license in the state of Virginia, the spa at Primland Resort in Meadows of Dan, VA.

The firm's broad range of expertise includes construction projects with complexities such as budget constraints that require competitiveness and the ability to bring current market forces to bear on building costs, as well as the challenge of meeting compressed schedules while producing a high quality building that is constructed safely. We even developed our own signature MAPSM Preconstruction Process, which helps the owner-designer-builder team better understand where they are going, how they plan to get there, how long it will take, and how much it will cost.

We are proud that so many of our customers say there is no general contractor with whom they would rather work. This was affirmed in 2008, when Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC) presented Frank L. Blum Construction Company its prestigious Pinnacle Award for "Best General Contractor" in North and South Carolina, an honor based on interviews with customers, subcontractors and architects about how we run our business. Our reputation was further reinforced recently when we earned the Better Business Bureau of Northwest North Carolina's 2010 Marketplace Ethics Award and the Greensboro Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals' 2010 Piedmont Business Ethics Award.
