Spotlight on Former Interns

President
Summer Intern 2001 & 2002
Winter Intern 2001 & 2002
“My internship(s) experience at Blum positively kicked off my career in construction.  The internship program allowed me to actively participate in the project process and work closely with Blum’s high-quality employees.  The rich history and integrity of its people are what set Blum apart from other construction companies and the work and personal skills I was taught then I still use today.   Not only could I tell my construction knowledge was exponentially expanding, but I was also learning how to create beneficial relationships with coworkers, clients, owners, etc.  The inclusive work environment and opportunity to grow lured me back to Blum each year.”

"My internship provided me the opportunity to work with multiple project managers across a variety of project types. I was able to witness differing leadership skills and management approaches to dealing with people. Additionally, I was able to see some fascinating construction projects that were in different stages of progress. Experiences in the field provided a greater appreciation for working as part of a crew/team and how productivity affects job progress. The experience as a whole was great, in that, it gave me (and Blum) a "test drive" of the industry and Blum specifically. My internship at Blum was a great supplement to the rest of my college education, as well as a head start for my professional career."

General Superintendent
Summer Intern 2004 & 2005
"My internship taught me how to apply my hands-on skills as well as my education in construction.  Both of those things helped me take a leadership role on the jobsite.  Applying your knowledge while gaining the respect of those around you is something that is important throughout your career.  The crews at Blum Construction that I worked with on the jobs were great.  I learned from everybody on site."

Mark Ford

Mark Ford

Senior Superintendent
Summer Intern 2007
"My internship prepared me for my career in a number of ways. It showed me that there was a lot of hard, tedious work that went into creating a building. It also showed me there was an immense amount of planning and preparation required in every step of the process. Additionally, the internship experience let me get a taste of just how much I really enjoyed, and would later continue to enjoy, being a part of a project team and the satisfaction that I get knowing that I was an integral part of work put into place."

Field Engineer
Summer Intern 2014
"My internship provided me with a real look into what type of career I was getting into. I had the opportunity to see many projects and meet many different people and it showed me how unique each project is, and the amount of work and pride that goes into each one to make it a success. Blum is special because they see that the value in the internship process is as much for them as it is for you, which allows interns to take on as much responsibility as they want.  Being an intern at Blum really gives you a feel for what life after school is like, and for me confirmed that I was making the right choice as to which career path I wanted to take."
