Summit School

Frank L. Blum Construction Co. is constructing two new buildings for Summit School on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem; a 15,000-square-foot classroom building for second and third graders and a 34,000-square-foot athletic center. The latter will include basketball/volleyball courts, gymnastics space, an aerobics room, weight-training facility, and an indoor running/walking track.

Summit is an independent school for kindergarten through ninth grade. The primary challenge of this project is to guarantee the safety and well-being of all students during class, recess, and after-school activities as these buildings are constructed on their campus.

In keeping with its emphasis on environmental awareness, the school planned both buildings to meet guidelines of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, which will make it the first independent school in North Carolina to construct LEED-certified buildings.
