Frank L. Blum Named Best General Contractor in the Carolinas Pinnacle Award is Industry’s Most Prestigious
Winston-Salem, N.C. – Frank L. Blum Construction Co. has earned the 2008 Pinnacle Award for Best General Contractor from the Carolinas Associated General Contractors, the most prestigious honor given in the construction industry in the Carolinas. The award was presented during a ceremony at CAGC’s annual meeting in Palm Beach, Florida on January 17. A rigorous judging process considered factors including references from subcontractors, architects and clients; the company’s safety program, benefits and advancement opportunities for employees; contributions to the industry and the community; history, and other honors received. “For 86 years now, Blum has operated its business in a way that is mindful of doing quality work and treating our employees, vendors and customers with the highest standards of ethics and integrity,” said Drew Hancock, Blum’s president. “The name ‘Pinnacle’ is very appropriate, because this award truly is regarded as a pinnacle in a construction company’s history. For Blum, it is a visible and public recognition of the notable work we have been doing quietly for decades, and will continue to do for our customers who count on us to be their trusted building partner.” Pinnacle Award judges also considered notable projects Blum had completed in the previous year. In 2008, Blum completed construction of Forsyth County’s first LEED-certified new construction (the new headquarters of Family Services, Inc.) and of Deacon Tower at BB&T Field for Wake Forest University. In 2007, Blum completed construction of the Gateway YWCA in Winston-Salem, one of the largest YWCAs on the East Coast, and a three-year restoration of the Single Sisters Residence Hall at Salem Academy and College. Blum’s skilled craftsmanship and regard for the historic nature of the building of Single Sisters, a National Historic Landmark, earned the company the 2007 Pinnacle Award for Best Project from the CAGC. Blum was also honored as one of the Triad Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” in 2008 and was named one of North Carolina’s Top 10 Small Businesses in North Carolina by Biz Leader magazine. Blum’s current projects include the construction of a new 277,000-square-foot multiplex on the campus of High Point University and the renovation of the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art in downtown Winston-Salem, as well as the completion of four environmentally friendly buildings on the campus of Summit School in Winston-Salem, the new Fine Arts Building at Canterbury School in Greensboro, and an Aquatic and Fitness Building at Village of Brookwood retirement community in Burlington. Frank L. Blum Construction Co., founded in 1923, is a commercial construction company specializing in challenging projects including “tight” urban sites, occupied campuses, medical facility renovations, clean laboratory environments,, LEED-certified construction, and historic restorations. The company’s long list of prominent Triad projects includes new construction and renovation projects for higher education and independent schools, continuing care communities, faith-based organizations, banks, biotechnology and research facilities, and athletic facilities.

| This letter is to express my sincere gratitude to Blum Construction for performing the emergency shoring of an EIFS wall system that failed on the southern exterior of the Integon Towers Complex.
The EIFS Wall was installed about a year ago and recently began to pull loose from the structural masonry wall, leaving a gap of up to five feet. This failure posed a serious threat to pedestrian safety, not to mention additional property damage.
Because the contractor who installed the wall decided not to provide the shoring, I contacted Mark Gill. Within two to three hours, Mark had men and equipment on site and completed the shoring process by 5:00 p.m.
It is unfortunate that not all contractors are as responsive as Blum, but I suppose that is why we place so much confidence in Blum. We know you will get the job done! |
