Mission Critical
RMIC
Republic Mortgage Insurance Company (RMIC) selected Frank L. Blum Construction Company to upfit headquarters office space on several floors of an existing and occupied downtown building on an extremely short schedule.
Working simultaneously on the first, second, third, fourth and seventh floors, work included interior renovations, and installations of rooftop equipment and an underground storage tank for a generator, as well as installation of a major data center. The data center contains many pieces of owner-supplied equipment that were vital to operations, but missed milestone delivery dates. With substantial penalties in play for construction delays, workers were scheduled almost around the clock to meet the scheduled completion date.
Challenges of the project included imitating negative impacts on the building’s tenants. There was limited, top-deck-only parking space and trucks with ladder racks had to park off-site. Construction personnel and deliveries were routed through the loading dock only, and all loud demolition was planned for off-hours.

| I am pleased in looking back over my 22 years at Wake Forest to see how important Frank L. Blum Construction Company has been for us. Whenever the job is especially difficult and time intensive, both I and my Director of Facilities, Bill Sides, turn to your firm.
Examples of your excellent work abound; the gatehouses which protect the campus at night, which were done on an extremely tight time schedule; Kirby Wing of Calloway Center, perhaps our most beautiful new space; and the new and renovated Pit, which was delivered 2 1/2 weeks early and under budget. The amount your firm saved us on the Kirby Wing was sufficient to finish all of the planned-to-be-vacant space in the basement! Of course, your signature building is the Mary and Charlie Babcock Wing at Reynolda House, a superb structure built on schedule and on budget. It is a magnificant addition to the museum.
You and your people have exhibited the kind of professional, competent, and helpful spirit a client would want. I can and do recommend you most highly and without reservation. |
