In 1987, RJR Nabisco announced that it was moving its corporate headquarters from Winston-Salem to Atlanta. The company donated its 520,000-square-foot former World Headquarters building to Wake Forest University—the single largest corporate gift in Wake Forest history at the time.
Renamed University Corporate Center, one of the repurposed building’s first tenants was Pepsi Beverage Company, which located a major Customer Service Center there. Blum Construction was preselected during interviews for a blitz of demolition and upfitting that put Pepsi into its new office space. Blum also oversaw the design and construction of the company’s then state-of-the-art data center and its accompanying emergency power system.
