July 16, 2019
Blum-Loving, a joint venture of Blum Construction and TA Loving Company, was recently selected as the Construction Manager for the S-1 Parking Deck & Central Generator Plant project by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals. The new 450 space, multi-level parking facility is designed to include two stair towers and one elevator. Other infrastructure work associated with the deck include the West extension of Paul Hardin Drive from Morrison Residence Hall to Emergency Room Drive, a parallel pedestrian pathway, reconfiguration of a plaza adjacent to the Public Safety Building, and utility reconfiguration and improvements to the steam, chilled water, electrical, telecommunication, sanitary sewer, domestic water, and storm water facilities. Design services for the parking deck project are provided by Clark Nexsen. The Central Generator Plant project consists of the construction of a new 15,000 square foot facility to house eight generators to produce 24 mega-watts of emergency power. The new generators will replace the existing generators that are now located in the existing hospital. New underground connections for the emergency power will be required, as well as renovations to each building in the existing hospital to provide separate normal and emergency power electrical rooms. Design services for the generator project are provided by Ewing Cole.
