June 1, 2015

Frank L. Blum Construction Company began work in May on the renovation ofKitchin Residence Hall on the Reynolda Campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. Kitchin Residence Hall was originally constructed in 1953.  Although various modifications have taken place over the years, the building has never undergone a major renovation. The project scope will include replacing the existing HVAC systems, plumbing, data cabling, and the majority of the electrical systems. Exterior improvements will include window and door replacement, exterior handrails to meet current code, roof repair, downspout repair or replacement, building waterproofing, soffit and fascia repair or replacement, painting of exterior surfaces, and removal of elements not in keeping with the building's original exterior. Interior improvements will include some student room reconfiguration, and bathroom replacement. The project, designed by Norfolk, Virginia-based Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company, will be done in two phases over the summers of 2015 and 2016.
