Salemtowne Selects Blum for New Skilled Nursing Facility and Assisted Living Renovation

August 30, 2014

Salemtowne, the Moravian continuing care retirement community, is showing its commitment to "buying local" by partnering with an experienced local team to design and build a new state-of-the-art health center for senior adults.

All three firms involved - CJMW Architecture (Architecture and Interior Design), Frank L Blum Construction Company (Construction Manager), and Stimmel Associates, P.A. (Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture), are headquartered in Winston-Salem and have more than 225 years combined experience working in the Triad. The three firms have worked together for more than 30 years, much of which has been spent in the senior living design and construction market.

The 120,000 square-foot Health Center will house up to 120 residents, including memory care residents. The Center will be designed in a neighborhood / household model which consists of a group of 20 resident rooms, each group with its own common area. Research has shown this model to be more beneficial to this population.

The new Center will not only enhance quality of life for Salemtowne's residents, but will also provide services to non-residents as a temporary Rehab Center. In addition to the new Health Center, the existing Phillips Health Care Center will be converted to provide additional space for Assisted Living residents.

Work on the design phase of the projects is currently underway. The projects are expected to be complete and ready for occupancy in 2017 and 2018.
