Description
Frank L. Blum Construction Company was selected to construct two luxury one-bedroom “treehouses” for Primland Resort, located on a 12,000-acre preserve in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. A major challenge because of the site’s location on the Blue Ridge plateau, each treehouse would have to be suspended about 1,100 feet over the Dan River Gorge.
Foundations were drilled into existing bedrock on the side of a mountain, and the rooms were built of Western Red Cedar to sit among—without harming—existing trees. The completed rooms include high-end finishes and the amenities of an urban getaway such as heating, air conditioning, and television. Each has 450 square feet of interior space and an additional 565 square feet of exterior decking which allows guests to enjoy phenomenal views of the Dan River Gorge. The success of the project led Primland to choose Blum Construction to build four new golf chalets as well.
