Description

Frank L. Blum Construction Co. built a 30,000-square-foot education, orientation, and exhibition wing located behind the existing guest house and indoor swimming pool of the historic former home of R.J. and Katherine Reynolds.

The new structure contains a multipurpose auditorium, a library, spaces for exhibitions, and a large art studio, as well as new space for offices and climate-controlled storage of art, costumes, and archives. Project challenges included access to the job site without interruption to the existing museum and patrons, as well as providing a structure that successfully blended with the historical architectural finishes, and protecting the artwork of Reynolda House with a state-of-the-art climate control system.
