The owner-designer-builder team talked with end-users of the dining hall, including dining staff and students, about how the building could be best utilized. The team reconfigured kitchen equipment and researched cost efficient equipment substitutes, saving approximately $1.65 million – 15 percent – on the dining hall alone. This savings enabled the University to add a laminated glass solar panel system to shade the outdoor dining area while providing up to 10 kilowatts of power.
