WFU The Pit

In only 90 days, during the students’ summer break, Blum Construction completely renovated the dining facility commonly referred to as “The Pit,” compressing eight months of work into eight weeks. Planning for the blitz began the previous November to accomplish the compressed schedule and included winter meetings with city officials to review codes and plans to prepare for permits and inspections. Challenges included working in a building occupied by faculty and staff, moving load-bearing walls, bringing a 1950s building up to code, and rerouting ductwork to avoid heat-sensitive main-frame computers on the floor above.
