New Life Center

Project Owner: Winston-Salem Rescue Mission

Designer: Owen Architecture, PLLC

Frank L. Blum Construction Company built the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission's New Life Center, a 26,900-square-foot, four-story building sandwiched between the Rescue Mission's current building and a busy city thoroughfare. The building includes housing for up to 40 people, classroom spaces, medical and dental clinics, and a library as well as a community room.

Construction challenges were defined by the tight urban site, which made the safety of passing pedestrians and Mission residents and staff of prime importance. Materials had to be stored off-site and transported across a major street; middle-of-the-night concrete pours were scheduled to minimize traffic delays, and construction workers sometimes had to direct traffic.
